The short version01
Is there caffeine in Sugar Defender drops?
Yes. Sugar Defender contains caffeine from two plant extracts in its blend, guarana seed and green tea leaf. The label names both but gives no caffeine figure.
Guarana seeds carry caffeine, and most of what guarana does in the body is traced to it (MSKCC, Guarana).
Green tea leaf holds caffeine too, along with plant compounds called catechins (NCCIH, Green Tea).

Blend math02
How much guarana and green tea can 1 mL of Sugar Defender hold?
At most about 67 mg of guarana extract and 29 mg of green tea extract fit in the daily 1 mL of Sugar Defender, based on the label's order rule.
The 22 blend ingredients share 200 mg and are listed from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)).
So the ingredient in place k can hold no more than 200 divided by k milligrams. These are ceilings, not real amounts.
| Ingredient | Place | Most it can be | Even split | Caffeine shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guarana seed extract | 3rd of 22 | About 67 mg (200 / 3) | About 9 mg | Not printed |
| Green tea leaf extract | 7th of 22 | About 29 mg (200 / 7) | About 9 mg | Not printed |
Maca and grape seed come first, so each weighs at least as much as guarana. If guarana passed 67 mg, those first three lines alone would top 200 mg.
The 400 mg line03
Could Sugar Defender push you past the FDA caffeine limit?
Not on its own. Even if all the guarana and green tea extract in Sugar Defender were pure caffeine, 1 mL could not pass about 96 mg, well under 400 mg.
FDA cites 400 mg a day, about two to three 12-oz cups of coffee, as an amount most healthy adults handle without harm (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?).
Extracts are only partly caffeine, so the real number is lower. How much lower is unknown.
Worst case on paper
67 mg plus 29 mg is 96 mg of extract, a ceiling that cannot all be caffeine.
Not a real amountReal amount
Unknown. No caffeine figure is printed and no lab report is published.

Coffee, tea, soda and energy drinks all count toward the 400 mg figure.
You control thisToo much caffeine can bring a fast heart rate, palpitations, poor sleep and jitters. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or caffeine-sensitive, ask a provider (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?).
Guarana04
What does guarana do in Sugar Defender?
Guarana adds caffeine to Sugar Defender. It sits 3rd of 22 in the blend, so it may be one of the larger shares.
The sales page gives it the line "Stimulates Your Metabolism" (Sugar Defender sales page). Research on guarana points to its caffeine, not to a blood sugar effect (MSKCC, Guarana).
Nausea and trouble sleeping are its most common side effects. Very high doses can cause vomiting, heartbeat changes and seizures, far beyond a daily 1 mL (MSKCC, Guarana).
Guarana may not be safe with other stimulants, and it may raise bleeding risk with warfarin, though how much is not settled (MSKCC, Guarana). See the full claims vs evidence.

Why is green tea extract in Sugar Defender?
Green tea extract gives Sugar Defender a second caffeine source plus catechins. As the 7th of 22 lines, it is capped at about 29 mg per mL.
Weight studies used 141 to 1,207 mg of catechins a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss), and catechins with caffeine seem to have only a modest effect on weight (NCCIH, Green Tea).
At high doses green tea lowers blood levels of nadolol, a beta-blocker (NCCIH, Green Tea).
The panel says "leaf extract" and nothing more. It does not state how much of that extract is catechins or caffeine, so the 29 mg ceiling cannot be turned into a catechin dose. Even taken whole, 29 mg is about a fifth of the lowest catechin amount studied.

Liver injury has been reported in a few people using green tea extracts, mostly tablets or capsules (NCCIH, Green Tea). If you have had liver problems, show the label to your doctor first. More on reactions: side effects.
Sleep and timing06
When should caffeine-sensitive people take Sugar Defender?
Take Sugar Defender early in the day if caffeine keeps you up. The label sets no time, so morning or midday suits light sleepers.
The label only says adults take 1 mL a day, or as a healthcare professional directs.
Stacking stimulants is the bigger risk: energy drinks can add far more caffeine than the drops.
- Count your usual coffee, tea and soda first.
- Tell your doctor about a racing heart or poor sleep.
Never stop or change a prescribed medicine because you started a supplement. On heart, blood pressure or blood-thinning drugs, ask your pharmacist about the caffeine first. Timing tips: how to take it.
The rest of the blend07
How do guarana and green tea fit with the other Sugar Defender ingredients?
Guarana and green tea are the only caffeine sources on the Sugar Defender label. Chromium and the other 20 blend lines are not stimulants.
The sales page names guarana among its eight ingredients but leaves green tea out.
See every line in order on the ingredients page, or check who should not take it.
FAQ08
What do people ask about green tea and guarana?
People most often ask: Does Sugar Defender have caffeine? The short answer, and 5 more, open below.
Each answer starts with the direct reply, then the reason, with a source where one exists.
Does Sugar Defender have caffeine?
Yes. Guarana seed extract and green tea leaf extract in the blend both carry natural caffeine. The label lists them 3rd and 7th of 22 but prints no caffeine figure, so the exact amount in 1 mL is not public.
How much caffeine is in Sugar Defender?
The label does not say. By its order rule, 1 mL holds at most about 67 mg of guarana extract and 29 mg of green tea extract, and only part of each is caffeine. The true amount is unknown but below 96 mg.
Can I drink coffee with Sugar Defender?
Most healthy adults can, if the day's total caffeine stays reasonable. FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount most adults handle well (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?). The drops add a small, unknown amount, so cut back if you feel jittery.
Can Sugar Defender keep you awake?
It might, if you are sensitive to caffeine. Trouble sleeping is a common side effect of guarana (MSKCC, Guarana), and the drops also hold green tea. Taking your 1 mL in the morning rather than at night lowers the chance.
Is green tea extract safe for the liver?
For most people it is, but rare liver injury has been reported, mainly with extract tablets and capsules (NCCIH, Green Tea). The drops hold at most about 29 mg of extract per mL. Anyone with past liver problems should ask a doctor first.
Is guarana a stimulant?
Yes, guarana works as a stimulant because its seeds contain caffeine (MSKCC, Guarana). Very high doses can cause vomiting and heartbeat changes, and it may not mix well with other stimulants. The drops hold a small, unprinted share.
